The Wadi Course
The Wadi Course

0n September 1, 1995, Emirates Golf Club broke ground and began the construction of a further nine holes to add to the existing 27 hole facility. Amazingly only 14 months later the 18 hole Wadi's Course opened on November 1, 1996. Christened the Wadi Course because of the stunning landscaped Wadi that features prominently within the course, the nine holes create a par 35. With the existing front nine. the Wadi Course is now a par 72 course. The Architectural characteristics of the fourth nine holes are undulating fairways well-bunkered greens and water hazards that come into play on six of the nine holes These factors will put a premium on shot selection and accuracy. The prevailing wind that sweeps in from the Gulf will also lull golfers into a sense of security that will be shattered as they begin the closing five holes

The par 5 fourteenth is a key hole with a 10 million gallon water hazard skirting the right side of the hole and eating in front of the green and out of bounds all the way down the left. From then on the test begins with the par 4 fifteenth and sixteenth holes straight back into wind and par 3 seventeenth guarded in front by a lone bunker. Far from providing a peaceful end to the round the eighteenth continues the theme. It encompasses a split fairway with desert in the middle and an uphill second shot to a green well-bunkered and with water on the right. While not as long as its front nine, the new closing nine on the Wadi will require precision and shotmaking that will be welcomed by all golfers.
