Lanta Island was once known as Pula[+] u Satak in Malay language, which means long-beach island. Later on, many Thais, both Muslim and Buddhist came to live on the island and to some it seemed to be a million islands, which made people think that "Lanta" means "too many to judge by the eye" in Thai.
