Dining in Granada
| In the enormously rich Granadine gastronomy,
different contributions are mixed, in addition to the morisca and the
bean. Mainly, those that bring the new settlers with products that previously
could be private preserves. Thus, they appear, for example, habas with
jamón that, being this one of Trevélez, has a delicate and
smooth flavor. The pot of San Antón also is a traditional stew of the city and its province, although the most representative plates of Granada are salaíllas with habas, appetizer for the day of San Cecilio or the day de la Cruz, the famous tortilla of the Sacromonte or remojón granadino of codfish and orange. To the margin of these meals and depending, sure of the capacity of the companion at table, another interesting proposal can be to taste a plate of Popes to the poor man or migas, mixed both with anything, although it is recommended that that thing comes from a pig. In
the land of repostería, the curd of carnival, the soplillos of
the Alpujarra and the real cake of Motril, or the extensive variety of
candies of the convents like soft eggs of San Antón, the bizcochada
one of Drip jar, the pestiños of the Incarnation or hojaldre of
San Jero'nimo, constitutes reasons sufficient to demonstrate that, in
these subjects, the meat can be very weak. The emblematic fruit of Granada is, of course, the grenade, whose tree is omnipresent in cármenes and gardens. Other chumbos fruits like khaki, haws, nísperas, quinces, higos, hackberries and serbas fill the swap-meets of the city in the celebration of the Patron. To these old traditions the tropical products of the coast have been united: avocados, chirimoyas, quivis, etc. |
