Karamea is a secluded haven in an isolated, lush farming district. It gives sense of destination to what rural New Zealand is really about.
Access to the Karamea River and beach for fishing and recreation are within easy walking distance. The southern terminus of the famous Heaphy Track is only 20 minutes drive. A visit to Oparara Basin featuring the majestic Limestone Arches and the Honeycomb Caves is one hour by vehicle

Hotel
Set in the heart of the village is the Karamea Village Hotel.
Established in 1876, this building has been restored to its former glory by its present owners.
Accommodation

Catering for all budgets including 3 new self-contained units with full cooking facilities, sleeps 6   4 and 2. Six quality studio units with ensuites, king, queen, triple and one family unit with disabled person facilities.

All nine units are serviced daily and provide shower, phone, TV (Sky), electric blankets, heating, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.

Tourist Flat
A three bedroom self-contained house which offers full cooking facilities, 2 showers, TV open fire, separate dining room and lounge. Backpackers style accommodation or full linen. Sleeps nine.
Karamea Bight Restaurant
Seating 40 persons, is open for breakfast through to late dinner serven days a week. From affordable family dinning to full a la carte, the menus offer local delicacies such as seafood and whitebait. We are happy to quote and cater for set menus and homestyle packed lunches, even morning and afternoon teas.
The Local Bar

Enjoy good old fashioned hospitality. Whether sharing a yarn with the locals or putting your feet up in front of the open fire, the surroundings offer a great snack and chat atmosphere.
