Hotel Description & Location

Mauritius_Lesaint_viewMauritius, “land of rainbows, waterfalls and shooting stars,” was first sighted by Arab dhows as early as the 10th century. The Portuguese visited around 1510 before the Dutch first took possession of it in 1598, giving the island its present name in honour of their head of state, Prince Maurice of Nassau.

The Dutch introduced sugar cane which, in addition to tourism, is still one of the pillars of the Mauritian economy. The island remained an important port of call for ships en route to India and the East Indies.

On the east coast of Mauritius, One&Only Le Saint Géran graces 60 acres on the beautiful Belle Mare peninsula. The resort is fringed by over a mile of white sand beach, bound by a sheltered cove on one side and by an inviting, eternally beautiful bay on the other. Ringed by a protective hemline of coral reef from the deep Indian Ocean, the peninsula on which One&Only Le Saint Géran sits is very close to the actual site of the wreck of the Le Saint Géran ship in 1744.

The resort is 1 hour from the airport, 40 minutes from the capital of Port Louis, and 20 minutes via complimentary shuttle from sister resort One&Only Le Touessrok. The island of Mauritius is about 1,800km (1,118 miles) from the east coast of Africa.
