Banyan Tree Maldives Vabbinfaru and Angsana Maldives Ihuru organize regular marine biology classes to raise awareness among resort guests of the beauty and fragility of the underwater world. Led by Mr. Azeez and his team, the topics covered during each hour-long session include the formation of corals and atolls, and the fascinating world of marine species like sharks, turtles and stingrays.
As part of the marine biology class, the conservation team accompanies the participants on escorted snorkeling tours around the house reef. The reef exploration trips not only heighten one's appreciation of the marine environment, but also allow guests to see for themselves the fruitful results of Banyan Tree's and Angsana's eco-friendly programs, including the Green Sea Turtle Project, the Barnacle and the Lotus. As part of the marine biology session, guests can also take part in coral transplantation and reef cleaning activities on days when the weather is good and the sea calm. |
