By 1968, the Wright Imperial had suffered irreparable damages from floods, earthquakes, wartime bombing and urban pollution, and a team of earthquake specialists declared the structure unsafe and unable to withstand further major tremors. The management glumly had Wright's decaying masterpiece dismantled, and parts of it rebuilt at Meijimura, a sort of Japanese Williamsburg, outside Nagoya, and parts incorporated into its replacement, erected in 1970. The understated entrance to today's Imperial belies the world of finesse and refinement commensurate with the Japanese capital's most exclusive address. Step inside and be received, in any of 5 languages, by devoted innkeepers whose lifelong careers lavish an art on attending to your needs. The solitary grand hotel in the Orient's most glamourous metropolis, the Imperial awaits you with a world of beguiling, graceful precision and care. ACCOMMODATIONS.....................
