The Prince Chichibu,
visiting Hokkaido for skiing in 1928, suggested building a typical western
style hotel in Sapporo. Sportsmen, the government, business people and
citizens in Sapporo responded to his idea, and in 1934 the Sapporo Grand
Hotel opened.
