Bikaner, the desert city located in the north of the state Rajasthan was founded in 1488 by Rao Bikaji, a descendant of Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur. Its rich art, crafts, folk tradition and culture talk about its glorious past of the city.
Like other desert cities Bikaner has been able to preserve its medieval flavour alive, which can be seen by visiting several impressive historic monuments including forts & palaces. These stand as a symbol of its glorious history and rich cultural heritage.
The city is also known for its intricately carved Jharokas. These stone screens are found on the windows of forts and havellis - traditionally, women would use the screens to watch the world whilst remaining hidden.
Bikaner is famous for its "Bikaneri Bhujia" and sweets. Bikaneri Bhujia is a spicy snack made from moth dal, spices and edible oil. Other famous things of thar land Bikaner are its craft work, its camel farm which is the biggest camel farm of Asia, leather articles and palaces.
