Malaysia's 'City of Entertainment', Genting Highlands is a mountain resort located an hour outside of Kuala Lumpur. Home to great hotels, theme parks and casinos, this highland outpost offers much more than an escape from the heat. Genting Highlands primarily attracts weekenders from Kuala Lumpur, but it's also a fun diversion for international tourists with a day to spare. Hotels in Genting Highlands operate together with the major casinos, all of which are operated by Casino de Genting. Gamblers find a range of slot machines and table games including baccarat, roulette, and Caribbean stud poker. Casino dress code requires smart, conservative dress. Families with children spend more time in local theme parks. Genting Outdoor Theme Park and Genting Indoor Theme Park combine to offer a variety of exciting rides. Admission to both is included on a combined day pass. Shopping is another popular activity, with First World Plaza attached to one of the major Genting Highlands hotels. At more than 6,000 feet elevation, this is the highest shopping complex in Malaysia. It's also an important entertainment hub, with a number of indoor attractions including a water park. Visitors typically arrive via Kuala Lumpur, but a shuttle serves destinations as far flung as Singapore. It's also possible to get to the base of the mountain by bus or train, at which point the Skyway cable car can whisk passengers to the summit in about ten minutes.
