The Sultan is a 64-room shophouse style boutique hotel, nestled right in the heart of Kampong Glam. The 10 shophouses that make up The Sultan have been lovingly restored to showcase the intricate and beautiful architectural features of traditional Singapore shophouses. Kampong Glam. Derived from two Malay words, Kampong, which means village, and Glam, a type of tree that used to be abundant here, Kampong Glam was the area allocated to Sultan Hussein Shah in 1823.
