Yangon’s famous Strand Hotel was founded by the same hoteliers as Singapore’s Raffles, the legendary Armenian Sarkies Brothers who established Asia’s first chain of luxury hotels. The Strand was built in 1901 and has long been recognized as a national landmark. Completely renovated, the three-storey Victorian hotel maintains a strong sense of charm and history. The marble flooring inlaid with teak wood, the rattan furniture and potted palms, the chandeliers and black-lacquered ceiling fans - all of it imbues The Strand with a personality as welcome as it is inimitable.

Superior Suite
Guests will have no trouble conjuring up Somerset Maugham inside these generous 55-60 square metre accommodations with polished teakwood floors below while ceiling fans whirl from high ceilings above. Perhaps he would have settled into a finely upholstered chair similar to the two in each Superior Suite’s sitting room, sun filled and finished with freshly cut flowers. Certainly he would be awed by the suite’s modern technology, cushy bedding, attentive butlers and the spacious bathroom with double sinks and a deep soak bathtub.
